Now that you know what you are feeling on the inside, the goal would be to journey from the Negative to the Positive. To do this, you will have to take one step at a time. If it were as easy as snapping your fingers to be positive then we would never be negative. Don't focus on the end of this journey, just look at the "Next Step" in front of you.
Negative Thoughts
Empower change
Xplore the Root
Take every thought Captive
Set a Goal
Thankfulness
Experience Goodness
Praise God
1. Admit it! Look in the mirror and say, "I feel negative and I don't like it!"
2. Give yourself permission to change. Sounds crazy but then again, try to change without giving yourself permission and you will see how easy it is to stay the same!
3. What is the real reason you feel this way? Watch out, what seems to be the obvious answer may not be it. What just happened that made you feel this way, may actually be the product of an even deeper root. This might require honesty and forgiveness.
4. Satan is going to try to get in your mind (odds are, he's already there) and continue to bring up these negative thoughts. You will have to take a proactive stance in what thoughts you allow into your mind. You choose rather to admit it or reject it!
5. Setting a Goal doesn't have to be like climbing Mount Everest. Start small like, "I'm going to wash the dirty dishes in the sink." "I'm going to go sit in the sun for 5 minutes." Then celebrate the fact that you did what you set out to do! This will start putting your mind and emotions in a better frame.
6. The absolute key to changing your attitude is to give thanks! Thank God for helping you see your negative emotions. Thank God that He is helping you accomplish your goals. Step by step you are coming out of the fog!
7. As you continue to move forward you will start to notice that things inside you are changing! Keep going! Step by step you will crest this mountain you have been climbing. Experience it! Enjoy it! Live it!
8. Praising God is not just something you do through song on Sunday morning. It is a lifestyle of giving everything to God! He has led you out of the valley of the shadow of death, onto His Mountain! Spend some time with Him and just tell Him how great He is!
If at any point on this journey, you find a set back:
~Maybe Satan gets your mind running backwards.
~Maybe you run into the person who got you in a bad mood to begin with.
~Maybe your root runs deeper than you thought it did.
In any of these cases, you will have to start back over again. And understand that this is a journey that will require you to start over again and again. Remember, if changing your attitude was easy, everyone would be positive all the time.
